The Oscar award-winning actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio is stepping up to support recovery efforts for the deadly wildfires that have hit his hometown of Los Angeles. The actor took to his Instagram story on January 15 and announced that he commits to donate $1 Million through his environmental organization Re:wild, to assist to both immediate and long-term wildfire relief. “The Los Angeles wildfires are devastating out city” DiCaprio wrote, highlighting the need for urgent help in the wake of the crisis.
In his social media post, Leonardo detailed how the donation will support several key organizations including the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation and World Central Kitchen among others. These groups are providing critical resources to fire responders, firefighters and the affected communities. “Our organization is uniquely positioned to respond to environmental disasters,” DiCaprio added, referring to Re:wild’s Rapid Response Program which is designed to assist in times of emergency.

As of now, the wildfires have claimed that atleast 25 lives and displaced thousands. The crisis is one of the worst in Los Angeles history with destruction spanning from the Palisades to Atladena. DiCaprio’s contribution to is part of a larger movement of celebrities and organizations stepping into help. Other stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Eva Longoria among others have also committed to supporting wildfire recovery with both pledging $1 Million.
