Korean Adaptation Of Netflix’s Money Heist Got Its Berlin

Squid Game actor Park Hae-soo will play Berlin in the Korean version of La Casa de Papel or Money Heist.

After starring in the global sensation, Squid Game, Park Hae-soo is returning to the streaming giant for a new project. The Korean actor, who played Cho Sang-woo in one of Netflix’s biggest TV series ever, has signed on to the new series, according to Deadline.

The Korean adaptation of the original Spanish series, Money Heist was announced in November 2020. Meanwhile, Netflix announced the cast of Money Heist Korea back in late March, though it was months before their show Squid Game became a monumental success. However, the official account of Netflix took Twitter to announce that Park Hae-soo will play Berlin in the Korean version of La Casa de Papel.

The upcoming show will be set on set on the Korean peninsula, and the shows’ creators will ‘breathe new life into the familiar plot and bring the story with a new outlook to global audiences with 12 episodes.’ Park will portray one of the ‘gang members’ who pull off this new heist, whose character is named Berlin.

Meanwhile, other members in the gang include Yoo Ji-Tae as The Professor, Jeon Jong-Seo as Tokyo, Lee Won-jong as Moscow, Kim Ji-hun as Denver, Jang Yoon-Ju as Nairobi, Lee Hyun-woo as Rio, Kim Ji-hun as Helsinki, and Lee Kyu-ho as Oslo. The Task Force Team will be played by Kim Yunjin (Seon Woojin) and Kim Sung-o (Cha Moohyuk) with the Hostages played by Park Myung-hoon (Cho Youngmin) and Lee Joobeen (Youn Misun).

However, original Money Heist creator Alex Pina is creating Money Heist Korea and executive producing, with Kim Hong-sun directing and Ryu Yong-Jae, Kim Hwan-Chae, Choe Sung-jun serving as the writers. However, it’s unclear when it may be released. Netflix also announced on Tuesday that they are moving forward with yet another new Money Heist adaptation, set in Berlin and arriving in 2023.

The original Money Heist series followed an unusual group of thieves who pulled off the biggest heist in Spanish history, stealing 2.4 million Euros from the Royal Mint of Spain. The show has spanned five seasons on Netflix, with the final four episodes debuting on the streaming service on December 3.

Meanwhile, Netflix revealed earlier in November that Squid Game was its most-watched TV series of all time. The Korean hit series generated a huge 1.65 billion hours of viewing in 28 days following its debut on September 17. The tally more than doubles the next closest competitor, Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton, which grossed 625 million hours over its first 28 days of release.
