Keanu Reeves steps out of the series adaptation of ‘The Devil in the White City’. In 2019 the show was put into development for the streaming platform Hulu and was officially scheduled to stream in August 2022. The show was based on the same name as a nonfiction book by Erik Larson.
In early August, Reeves was announced to be heading the show The Devil in the White City. However, the John Wick star is no longer attached to the project. Keanu was supposed to play Daniel Burnham, the architect who played an integral role in designing the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. No information about Reeves’ exit has been revealed yet. Well, now the makers of the Hulu adaptation will be on the lookout for a new actor to play Burnham.
The official synopsis read, “It follows Daniel H. Burnham, a brilliant and fastidious architect racing to make his mark on the world and Henry H. Holmes, a handsome and cunning doctor who fashioned his own pharmaceutical ‘Murder Castle’ on fair grouradhikands – a palace built to seduce, torture and mutilate young women. The story takes the viewer on a tour of murder, romance, and mystery in the gilded age.”
The project has been in development for almost a decade now. In 2010 Leonardo DiCaprio bought the film rights to the book and planned to make it a feature film at Paramount with Scorsese to direct. Reeves officially boarded the big-budget project in August this year. Hulu is already searching for Keanu Reeves’ replacement but there is no certainty when a potential actor will be selected. If the hunt takes too long then the project may be pushed back.
