Kanye West Sued By Fashion Rental Service Over Unpaid Fees

Ye allegedly never returned more than a dozen "esteemed" goods and has consistently refused to pay for them, according to a high-end fashion rental business.

A high-end clothes rental firm is suing Kanye West, claiming that he owes thousands of dollars of unpaid fees and has completely neglected to return more than a dozen “rare, esteemed pieces.” The David Casavant Archive, which describes itself as a “private collection of the world’s rarest and most coveted clothes,” claimed in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in a Los Angeles court that Kanye had simply ceased paying rental payments for 13 different items he owned in late 2020.

According to the Casavant Archive, which claims to rent to Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady, and others, the outstanding costs now amount $221,810 – and Kanye must pay an extra $195,100 to replace the artefacts if they are completely lost. The lawsuit reads, “The items are all rare, esteemed pieces valued for their scarcity and importance in fashion history,” lawyers for the company wrote.

“They are not fungible commodities. The replacement fees reflect the loss of future rentals, loan opportunities, publicity, and the lost value to the Archive as a whole, as each lost item is part of a greater collection that derives its value from its completeness.” The Casavant Archive notes in the current complaint that it has had a long connection with Kanye, providing advising and leasing services to him and his Yeezy Apparel LLC since 2014.

Kanye would just keep paying rental costs if he wanted to retain a thing for a longer period of time. Lawyers of the company wrote, “When defendant Ye would occasionally lose items that he had rented from the Archive, defendant Yeezy was billed the replacement fee. All parties understood (as expressed orally and in writing and reflected in many years of prior dealings) that because the garments are not commodities that are easily replaceable.”

According to the complaint, the same rental agreement applied to 13 items that Kanye rented in February 2020 but failed to return; nevertheless, he allegedly ceased making weekly payments in October 2020. According to Casavant Archive, efforts to remedy the issue have failed.

Kanye is dealing with a slew of legal issues. He’s presently engaged in a contentious divorce battle with ex-wife Kim Kardashian. and he’s facing various copyright lawsuits over charges of unlawful sampling. Rumours circulated in February that he would face assault charges in connection with an incident in which he reportedly assaulted a fan outside a Los Angeles nightclub.
