During the intense filming of Christopher Nolan’s Oscar winning film Oppenheimer, Josh Hartnett received a lot of great advices from co-star Matt Damon accept one which was quite “unhelpul” for the actor. Josh Hartnett, who plays a pivotal role of physicist Ernest Lawrence in Oppenheimer, recently recounted the amusing incident during an interview with Jimmy Falcon on his talk show, The Tonight Show.
According to Hartnett, while filming the biogphical war epic, he had gained over 30 pounds for the role and Matt Damon, who plays Lt. General Leslie, told him, “‘You’re never gonna get that off again, man.’” Damon’s advice to Hartnett was not to gain more than 40 for any role as it is difficult to lose that amount of weight as the body doesn’t support it as it want to get that weight back.
Matt Damon, who went through a quick weight loss journey for his 1996 film, Courage Under Fire, faced major health issues as a side effect of his transformation. He recalled that he was “getting dizzy spells and hot flashes.” He saif that it helped his performance as he was all “wreck” and the Air actor “didn’t had to act at all.” The Good Will Hunting actor stated he didn’t reveal it to anyone as he “was afraid I might be really ill.” (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)
Oppenheimer delves into the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist often called the “father of the atomic bomb.” The film’s heavy subject matter required the cast to immerse themselves deeply into their roles. However, the shared experience of working on such an intense project also fostered strong bonds among the actors.
Other than Josh Hartnett and Matt Damon, Oppenheimer assembled a star-studded cast with Cillian Murphy in lead role, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh. Nolan’s attention to detail and commitment to authenticity demanded the best from his actors, who responded with dedication and professionalism.
