Jimmy Fallon Teams Up With Ariana Grande And Megan Thee Stallion For Masked Christmas Song

Jimmy Fallon, Ariana Grande, and Megan Thee Stallion urges listeners to mask up and take booster shots through It Was A… Masked Christmas.

Jimmy Fallon teamed up with two of music’s biggest stars, Ariana Grande and Megan Thee Stallion to spread awareness of the COVID-19 booster shots. The 47-year-old talk show host joined hands with Grande, 28, and Megan Thee Stallion, 26, for a new song titled It Was A…Masked Christmas.

Fallon revealed the tune during Monday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he first spoke about wanting to create a new holiday song for these unusual times. The host told the audience he had been working on, ‘a holiday song, a comedy song,’ adding he goes to Electric Ladyland studio in Manhattan every night and just tries to write something.

However, Fallon then revealed that while hanging out at the studio which he said he did from “7 PM to midnight every day,” he was introduced to two music producers. “I get to these guys and we write this song, and I think it’s something. I think we could have something,” Fallon noted. After making a demo of the song, he played it for a record label executive but it was all quiet after the song finished, but the producer shook his hand and said, “You’ve got a hit.”

The Tonight Show host then continued that the song was about how last year was horrible, ‘but it’s gonna get better,’ adding the record executive’s ‘dream’ was to get Ariana Grande to do the song. Fallon said she’s ‘the greatest’ but when they reached out to her, they didn’t hear back right away, until she texted him, “Jimmy, I love the song. I’m in.”

Meanwhile, Ariana recorded her part of the song in L.A. and asked who would do the rap portion. Although, Fallon said, “I was hoping she’d say, ‘No Jimmy, you can do the rap.'” But, Ariana suggested Megan Thee Stallion, who said she was in and asked when could they shoot the video. The song debuts at midnight, but they allowed Fallon to debut the song and the music video on Monday’s episode.
