Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez revealed in early March that they were “working through some things”
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have called it quits after weeks of trying to sort out their differences.
The two released a joint statement to PEOPLE on Thursday morning.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support,” the statement read.
The news of Lopez and Rodriguez’s break up was first shared on Today.
Today was the first to report on Lopez and Rodriguez’s breakup.
Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez, 45, revealed a few weeks ago that they were “working through some things” after news broke that they had called off their engagement in early March.
“They never officially broke up and talked about it but are still together. They hit a rough patch. But were not broken up,” said a source close to people magazine. “She’s working in the Dominican Republic and he’s in Miami so it’s tough seeing each other especially with quarantining and COVID, but they want to try to stay together.”
When the news that the two were on the verge of splitting up first emerged in early March, a source said it had been a long time coming.”
Alex tried making things work out by flying to Dominican Republic and refuted the rumours of the couple having a rough patch.
“Jennifer was excited to see him in person. They are really trying to figure things out,” source told PEOPLE. “It was a wonderful reunion.”
But Lopez was “very much ready to give up” on their engagement, according to the source.
Also, Jlo earlier has been open about how eagerly she wanted to get married but due to the pandemic, their plans were interrupted.
