Jenna Ortega In ‘Beetlejuice 2’?

Ortega, who recently starred in Netflix's Wednesday, also directed by Burton, said she used to have "constant dreams" of Beetlejuice when she was younger.

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega wishes to be part of the Tim Burton family again. The actor is floating around for a role in Beetlejuice 2, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros., who are behind the feature, could not be reached for comment. Someone from Jenna Ortega’s team also did not respond to requests for comment. The news comes as Ortega hits theaters with Scream VI, which could land the biggest premiere in the franchise’s more than 25-year history.

Tim Burton, who directed the 1988 film starring Michael Keaton, is expected to direct and Keaton is also set to return, sources say. The production is planning to shoot in London in late May/early June, but no budget has been set, which has led to back-and-forth. If an agreement is reached, sources say Ortega would play Lydia’s daughter, the character played by Winona Ryder in the original.

Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jordan, and Catherine O’Hara also starred in the original film, which grossed $80 million on a budget of $15 million and won an Academy Award for Best Makeup at the 1989 Academy Awards. The sequel has gone through several iterations over the years, with multiple writers coming and going and Burton himself speaking publicly of his own involvement.

Ortega, who recently starred in Netflix’s Wednesday, also directed by Burton, said she used to have “constant dreams” of Beetlejuice when she was younger. The actress began her career with roles as Young Jane on The CW’s Jane the Virgin, followed by roles on You and Yes Day.

Ahead of Wednesday’s debut, Ortega told The Hollywood Reporter about working with Burton, “It’s been a pretty crazy experience.
