Another beloved Hollywood celebrity couple has parted ways. Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are ‘parting ways in marriage’ after 16 years of relationship. The couple released a joint statement to Instagram on Tuesday, announcing the news and promising that the “love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived.”
While the split appears to be amicable, it does bring to a close a romance that’s lasted for over 16 years. The couple also shares two children, and Momoa has been a stepfather to Bonet’s daughter, actress Zoe Kravitz from her previous marriage to rocker Lenny Kravitz.
Talking about their relationship timeline, the actors first met at a Los Angeles jazz club in 2004, where they were introduced by a mutual friend and shared a dinner of Guinness and grits together. They began dating almost instantly, with Bonet saying in an interview years later, “I can’t say it was full-on from the moment we saw each other, but we have been together from the day that we met.”
Meanwhile, Momoa has previously revealed that he’d had a crush on Bonet long before they had met. Aquaman star also revealed that had watched her in the Eighties series The Cosby Show when he was a child. Momoa and Bonet had their first daughter together, Lola, in July 2007. Bonet gave birth to their second child, son Nakoa-Wolf, in December 2008.
However, Bonet and Momoa starred in the 2014 thriller Road to Paloma together. It was also written and directed by Momoa. In the movie, Momoa played a Native American being pursued by federal agents for killing his mother’s rapist. Bonet starred as his love interest. The couple later also co-starred in the TV series The Red Road, which was canceled after two seasons.
The couple got married in a secret wedding ceremony at their home in Topanga, California, in October 2017. In January 2022, Momoa and Bonet announced they were ending their marriage. The statement posted on Instagram reads, “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.”
