Jada Pinkett Smith Will Discuss Her Family’s Reaction To Oscars Incident On Red Table Talk

Jada Smith recently revealed that considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing.

Jada Pinkett Smith has recently revealed that she and her family will discuss the fallout of her husband Will Smith’s Oscars incident eventually on her talk show when the time is right. In a message at the premiere of season 5 of Red Table Talk, Jada addressed why fans won’t see mention of the March 27 Oscars incident, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock onstage after taking issue with a joke made about Jada’s shaved head.

Jada Smith said in the statement, “Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.” The statement continues, “Until then… the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest. Thanks for joining us, Jada.”

However, a day after the Oscars last month, Will apologized to Rock in a statement, saying that he “reacted emotionally” because the “joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear.” Will has since resigned from the Academy. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which hosts the Oscars, also banned the actor from attending its events for the next ten years.

Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson wrote in a letter, “This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behaviour is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.”

When he resigned from the Academy, Will said in a statement that his behaviour was “shocking, painful and inexcusable.” Following the incident, Jada shared a message on Instagram saying, “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it.” Less than a week before the Oscars, Jada said in a social media upload while discussing her hair journey, “I don’t give two craps what people think of this bald head of mine. Because guess what? I love it.”
