Is House Of Gucci Based On True Event?

Though the plot of House Of Gucci is based on real people and events, a few elements are not the same as reality.

House of Gucci has recently hit theatres. The movie stars Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, and Jared Leto (House of Gucci cast). The plot of the movie follows Lady Gaga’s character, Patrizia Reggiani, who marries Maurizio Gucci, the heir to ‘The Gucci’ business. When things between them turn sour, Gaga’s character arranges for a hitman to murder Gucci.

The movie is based on the book ‘House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden.’ However, the story of the movie is based on real people and events, a few elements were changed. The House of Gucci movie shows Maurizio and Patrizia having one daughter named Alessandra.

Moreover, the movie makes a big deal of the moment, in which Patrizia tells her father-in-law Rodolfo that it was her idea to name the baby after Maurizio’s mother. Meanwhile, in reality, Maurizio’s mother was named Sandra, and the couple had two daughters, Alessandra and Allegra.

Moreover, in real life, Maurizio fled to Switzerland when he was investigated for forging a signature in order to avoid paying inheritance taxes. While, in the film, it was implied that Patrizia is the one who forges the signature. According to AP, Maurizio was found guilty of the forgery but later acquitted of the forgery.

Eventually the couple split, in the film, Maurizio tells Patrizia to return to Italy while he stays in Switzerland. In reality, the couple moved back to Milan in 1982, and shortly after he told Patrizia he was going on a brief business trip to Florence. However, the following day he sent a friend to tell Patrizia their marriage was finished and he wasn’t coming home.

Patrizia was then overwhelmedby jealousy, while Maurizio began dating his friend Paola Franchi played by Camille Cottin and eventually Patrizia and Maurizio divorced in 1994. Meanwhile, Maurizio was preparing to marry Paola when he was murdered. Reportedly, Patrizia tasked her longtime friend and psychic Guiseppina Auriemma, aka Pina, played by Salma Hayek to hire a hitman and a getaway driver, which she did. All four were charged with the murder.
