Idris Elba doesn’t consider censorship of racist old sitcoms and says viewers should know that individuals made such shows. The actor opened about diversity in television and also the need for change in an interview with Radio Times. Idris further said, “I’m pretty much a believer in freedom of speech. Instead, there should be a classification system warning viewers that a movie or show has outdated, insulting viewpoints.” Without relating any specific program, Idris said, “To mock the reality, you have got to grasp the reality. But to censor racist themes within a show, to drag it… I feel viewers should know that folks made shows like this. Commissioners and archive-holders pulling things they think are exceptionally tone-deaf at this point – fair enough and good for you.” Idris Elba feels boosting diversity needs a change in attitude, “Money helps,” he said, adding, “It’s a shift in attitude, in perspective, intolerance. And you can’t put an amount on it.”
