Here’s why Taylor Swift writes songs about Joe Alwyn but never talks about her relationship

Taylor Swift in her recent album Lover has written and sung about her relationship with boyfriend Joe Alwyn. But she has always stayed tight-lipped about her relationship in her interviews. Taylor recently revealed why she chose to do so.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are dating for almost 3 years now but the couple has not walked a single red carpet together but is spotted on various dates and events together. Taylor in her various interviews even on being asked about her boyfriend Joe Alwyn has been mum about her relationship. The only way fans learn about her relationship is by decoding her songs. Taylor in her recent album Lover has given some interesting insights about her relationship with Joe.

Taylor who features on the upcoming issue of Rolling Stones explained that she can only express her thoughts about her relationship in her songs rather than interviews. She said, “Singing about something helps you to express it in a way that feels more accurate. You cannot, no matter what, put words in a quote and have it move someone the same way as if you heard those words with the perfect sonic representation of that feeling.”

Even in her album Lover, she put together her thoughts, gave a few details of her relationship and also teased about her future with Joe. But Taylor revealed how while writing these songs she faces a “weird conflict.” She explained, “There is that weird conflict in being a confessional songwriter and then also having my life, you know, 10 years ago, be catapulted into this strange pop-culture thing.”

This isn’t the first time Taylor referred to Joe in her music. Back in 2017, in her Reputation album, she sang about Joe and referred it to be a “love story” in chaos. She told the magazine, “It was a love story in amongst the chaos. All the weaponized sort of metallic battle anthems were what was going on outside. That was the battle raging on that I could see from the windows, and then there was what was happening inside my world – my newly quiet, cosy world that was happening on my own terms for the first time … It’s weird, because in some of the worst times of my career, and reputation, dare I say, I had some of the most beautiful times – in the quiet life that I chose to have.”
