Demi Lovato‘s whirlwind romance with Young and the Restless star Max Ehrich, 29, has come to an end. The once madly in love couple have called off their engagement,” a source told PEOPLE on Sept. 24.

According to several sources, the pair, who decided to get make it official in July and celebrated their six-month anniversary earlier this month, began having issues over the past several weeks when they returned to work in Los Angeles in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic after quarantining together.

“Demi and Max were basically together 24/7 for months,” a source reported  to a news portal. “They lived in a bubble with zero stress, and everything was just fun. Now they are both working and are on separate coasts,” added the source.

While the singer “OK Not to Be OK“, 28, is currently in L. A and Max is shooting for the film in Atlanta. The source claims, “They were having conflicts.” 

Although the split is the last thing that Lovato expected when she accepted the proposal from Ehrich, a source close to the singer says she’s “doing okay” and that the breakup “is a good thing.”

Meanwhile, no Reps for Lovato or Ehrich have commented on the same.

A source with knowledge of the situation told a news portal earlier that it was a “tough decision” for the stars to end their relationship.

Talking about the couples decision to call it quits asource said, “Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers.”

Insider further added, “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”

For the unversed their split comes about two weeks after old tweet’s screenshots and videos resurfaced on social media that reportedly linked back to Ehrich in which he professed his admiration for Lovato’s once-BFF Selena Gomez.

He gushed about many other pop stars, like Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus, in the tweets and Instagram comments that Ehrich reportedly posted before being romantically involved with Lovato.

 Lovato criticized the social media posts calling it “fake” and “doctored.” and posted a story shortly.

“It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other. If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU,” she began the post. “Secondly, don’t y’all have more important s— to write about in 2020??? I challenge any tabloid that dares to type my name to mention Breonna Taylor and the fact that her murderers still haven’t been arrested. WRITE ABOUT THAT.”

“But then I stop and think.. it’s hella rude but damn.. I get it. And I don’t wanna look at what’s really happening in the world either but WE HAVE TO,” she continued. “Yes, it’s easier to tear apart celebrities and their relationships because 2020 sucks and scares the s— out of us all but it’s only gonna stay terrifying until we address it all and WORK ON SOLUTIONS TOGETHER.”

She went on to say, “So while on one hand I understand and have compassion for those who are so horrified at the reality of 2020 that they gotta distract themselves with doctored images in order to not focus on how bad these times are, but on the other hand, if you aren’t 13 years old trying to grasp the reality of right now, put on your adult underpants and write about what actually matters. Please.”

The couple got engaged On July 22, while less than four months after the news started doing rounds that Lovato and Ehrich were dating.

In Malibu, California, Ehrich asked the singer to marry him with a dazzling diamond ring designed by celebrity jeweler Peter Marco.

After Max went down to his knees, Lovato posted a series of images on Instagram from their beachside proposal and openly gushed about the beautiful moment.

Taking to Instagram she posted the pictures with a long heartfelt note that reads as, “When I was a little girl, my birth dad always called me his ‘little partner’ — something that might’ve sounded strange without his southern cowboy like accent”.

The Disney star added, “To me it made perfect sense. And today that word makes perfect sense again but today I’m officially going to be someone else’s partner.”
