Here’s How You Can Watch The Creepy Thriller ‘Smile’ Online

If you didn't have a chance to watch it in theatres, you can now stream 'Smile' from your comfy couch on Paramount+.

The creepy thriller Smile is finally moving to Ott from theatres. Smile made its theatrical debut in September. After six weeks on the big screen, the creepy thriller surpassed $200 million at the global box office, a highly impressive number considering its meagre $17 million production cost.

However, if you didn’t have a chance to watch it in theatres, you can now stream it from your comfy couch on Paramount+. In order to stream the movie, you’ll have to sign up for a Paramount+ account, with plans starting at $4.99/month. The film will also be released on 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on December 13, available to pre-order on Amazon.

The Paramount original horror film follows a devoted therapist named Dr Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) who begins having bizarre, frightening experiences after witnessing a traumatic incident involving one of her patients. This patient, played by Caitlin Stasey, describes to Dr. Cotter the visions she’s been seeing, which come to life in the form of an evil, scary grin that smiles back at her.

A feature adaptation of Finn’s short was announced in June 2020, and the cast was added in October 2021. Filming began that month in New Jersey. Originally set for a streaming release through Paramount+, the studio opted to release the film theatrically after strong positive test screenings. Smile had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 22, 2022, and was released in the United States on September 30, 2022, by Paramount Pictures.

Smile garnered positive reviews from critics, who praised the visuals, sound design, musical score, themes, direction and Bacon’s performance, and has grossed $210 million worldwide against a $17 million budget. In Finn’s debut Smile (out Sept. 30) a malevolent supernatural entity takes over people and makes them perform terrible acts while grinning ear to ear.

As part of the Paramount film’s marketing campaign, performers were prominently placed at baseball games on Friday where they adopted the biggest smile they could muster. “I’ve got to say, Paramount marketing has been very clever with some of the tricks they’ve had up their sleeves for this film,” says Finn. “This is something that had been discussed a little while back and we were all kind of like crossing our fingers that somebody might notice.”
