Henry Cavill Has Been FIRED From Superman Role

Henry Cavill took to his Instagram just to disappoint his fans by revealing the news that he will not be back as Superman on the big screen.

A shocking update has come to Warner Bros.’ DC movie Superman. Just two months after confirming his return, Henry Cavill revealed that he will not be returning as Superman. Cavill most recently has a cameo appearance as Superman at the end of Warner Bros. blockbuster movie, Black Adam, teasing a showdown between Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.

Meanwhile, the actor took to his Instagram to disappoint his fans revealing the news that he will not be back as the Man of Steel on the big screen. Cavill shared a lengthy post, writing, “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.”

Man Of Steel star shared that after being told by the studio to announce his return back in October, prior to their hire this news isn’t the easiest. He added, “I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and happiest of fortunes.”

The actor then teased that Superman is still around. Shortly after Cavill’s statement on Instagram, DC Films head James Gunn took to Twitter to elaborate on the future of the beloved Superman character. The filmmaker tweeted, “Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over the moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.”

Gunn then revealed that among those on the slate is Superman. Gunn clarified, “In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.” He added, ‘But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.’

Gunn also answered a few questions from fans in the replies of his Twitter thread, revealing he’s writing the new Superman film… but won’t direct it. “I am writing (and have been for a while). We don’t know who is directing yet,” he said in response to a fan who asked if he’s writing/directing the Superman project. Another curious fan asked if it would be possible for Ben Affleck to direct the Superman project, with Gunn indicating Affleck is interested in directing a DC superhero movie… though it’s unclear which one.
