The legendary Grammy award winning music producer Quincy Jones who passed away at 91, on November 3, 2024. Leaving a huge void in the world music industry and in family. Rashida Jones, his daughter has now shared a touching tribute to her father after his sad passing.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Parks and Recreation star called her father “a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius.” These words reflect the special bond they shared, as Quincy was not just a music icon but also a constant source of love and support.
Rashida spoke about her father lived a unique life, often staying up late or as she called it, keeping “jazz hours”. “My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life,” she wrote. As a little girl, Rashida would sometimes wakeup in the middle of the night and search for his dad, and always find him working on his music. And instead of sending her back to bed, as a lovely father to his daughter like many, Quincy used to smile by holding her close and keep working. For Rashida, those moments feel like, “…there was no safer place in the world for me.”.

Quincy Jones’ music was more than just songs, it was a way for him to express his love, as Rashida pointed out how her father’s magical work made everyone he met feel loved and seen. She believes that’s his true legacy!

Throughout his career, Quincy Jones shaped the music world with his talents, working with iconic stars like Michael Jackson. He also mentored future superstars such as Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith. Additionally, recalling the time when Rashida worked with her father on the 2018 documentary titled Quincy, reflected on his huge impact. “I just cannot believe all of this experience is contained in this one human being who just happens to be my dad,” she told USA TODAY at the time.
Quincy Jones’ music and influence will continue to live on, inspiring generations to come.
