Frozen 3 Official Release Date Revealed: The Disney Princess Will Return On The Big Screen On This Day

The highly anticipated sequel will bring Elsa, Anna, and the rest of Arendelle back to the big screen just in time for the holiday season.

Disney has officially announced that Frozen 3 will hit theatres over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2027, bringing the beloved characters of Elsa, Anna, and their magical world of Arendelle back to the big screen. The announcement was made by Jennifer Lee, chief creative officer at Walt Disney Animation at the D23 event as part of their upcoming film slate, setting the stage for what is expected to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Lee also shared that Frozen 4 is in the works too.

The third instalment of the Frozen franchise, which has become a cultural phenomenon since the release of the original film in 2013, will see the return of directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. Both were instrumental in shaping the first two films, which collectively grossed over $2.7 billion (Frozen grossed $1.28 billion and Frozen II made $1.45 billion in box office collection) worldwide. Frozen 3 aims to continue the legacy of its predecessors, delivering a new adventure that fans of all ages can enjoy.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, Frozen 3 is expected to further explore the journeys of Elsa and Anna, the royal sisters whose bond has been at the heart of the franchise. The artwork shared during the D23 Expo showed Elsa and Anna riding horses and Anna riding with Olaf (the popular Frozen snowman). Fans are eagerly speculating about the new challenges and adventures that await the characters, especially after the cliffhanger ending of Frozen 2, which left many questions unanswered.

The film’s Thanksgiving 2027 release date positions it as a prime holiday offering, likely to draw massive crowds eager to see the next chapter in the Frozen saga. The Thanksgiving release window has been a successful strategy for Disney in the past, with Frozen 2 also launching during this period and achieving record-breaking box office numbers. Earlier, Frozen 3 release was scheduled for the 2026 release which got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the writers’ strike.

In addition to the returning directors, it is anticipated that the voice cast, including Idina Menzel (Elsa), Kristen Bell (Anna), Josh Gad (Olaf), and Jonathan Groff (Kristoff), will reprise their iconic roles. The music, which has been a defining element of the Frozen films, is also expected to play a central role, with hopes for another hit song to join the ranks of ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Into the Unknown.’

As the release date approaches, excitement is sure to build, with Frozen 3 poised to be a must-see event that continues Disney’s tradition of enchanting storytelling and unforgettable characters.
