Family Drama ‘Meet The Parents’ Returning With Original Cast?

A new of 2000's blockbuster hit film 'Meet The Parents' sequel is in development, with the original cast in talks to return. Will hilarity ensue?

Fans of the hilarious family drama are in for a treat as Universal Pictures is working on a new sequel in the Meet the Parents franchise. The original cast which featured Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner in the main characters are reportedly in talks to reprise their much-loved roles. The franchise’s co-writer John Hamburg is also reportedly returning to pen the script, keeping the excitement alive for another comedic adventure.

As Deadline reported, while the plot details of the film remain under the wraps, the sequel will continue to explore the tension-filled yet comical dynamics between Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) and his father-in-law Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro). The original 2000 film was a massive hit grossing $330 million worldwide, followed by two successful sequels, Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers.

John Hamburg who has previously collaborated with Ben Stiller on projects like Zoolander and Along Came Polly is expected to bring his signature humour back to the table. Production will be handled by Tribeca Productions, Delirious Media and Red Hour Films with key producers from the previous films returning. The new installment is set to reunite the core cast, with Danner reprising her role as Dina Byrnes and Polo as Pam Focker. While it’s unclear other actors of the original movie’s Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand or Owen Wilson will return or not, fans can expect the awkward family gatherings and hilarious misunderstandings the series is known for.

Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller expressed interest in a sequel during the 2020 anniversary of the original film. “I’m game,” De Niro shared, while Stiller added, “I’d love to work with this group again.”

With the script in early development and no director confirmed, fans eagerly await further updates. Could this new chapter revive the charm of the original?
