The White Lotus was nominated for Outstanding Limited Series Emmys, while Sydney was nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria. Sydney was overjoyed to hear the news and burst into tears when she contacted her mother to celebrate in a video (seen below) provided by Jarett Wieselman, a Netflix social media manager.
Sydney was seen balled up in the passenger seat of a car with a beaming grin on her face as she phoned up her mother at the beginning of the video. The phone only rang once, and Syndey was welcomed by her mother’s joyful “Congratulations,” to which she answered, “Mom!” The actress then pulled the phone off speaker and appeared to get increasingly upset, wiping tears from her eyes. During the phone chat, the actress, who was dressed in a white sweater, chuckled and praised her mother.
The call ended when she informed her supporting mother that she was being swamped with calls and would catch up with her later. Sydney shared the video on her Instagram page right after the nominees were announced, taking the time to express her feelings. “What a morning! Thank you so much to the @televisionacad for my Emmy nominations! It’s an honour to know that both Olivia and Cassie have connected with so many,” she wrote.
The actress went on to say, “I’m so proud of both these shows and grateful to everybody that’s been a part of them. But most importantly mom, I love you, we did it through the ups and downs! Thank you thank you!!” she concluded her caption. “I’m excited, I’m in disbelief, I’m beyond appreciative,” the actress told People magazine after receiving her nominations. “It’s a great day!”
She also mentioned that she had a full day of work ahead of her and discovered her nominations in between her many job duties. I’m in pre-production for Madame Webb, so I’m kind of all over the place today going from fittings to rehearsals to table reads,” she said. “I was in the and my phone started blowing up. I saw it and I called my mom. Then, I called my team, then my dad, then my brother. I was just … sitting in the car!”
