ED Sheeran Recalls The Awkward Reaction Of His Wife When He Proposed Her

Ed Sheeran has recently opened up about how his wife Cherry Seaborn was reacted when he proposed to her. The singer revealed that Cheery was so shocked when he proposed to her that she asked “are you f***ing joking?.” The revelation comes after the news that Ed will release a Christmas song with Elton John.

The Perfect hitmaker proposed to his childhood sweetheart in 2017 but has now admitted there was a ‘long pause’ before she accepted his proposal after he got down on one knee. The couple then exchanged the vows in 2018 and welcomed their first child Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran last August.

Stating on the Swedish talk show ‘Skavlan of the awkward proposal moment with Cherry,’ Ed reveals, “I was getting down on one knee and I said, ‘Will you marry me?'” He continues, “And she was like, ‘Are you f***ing joking?’ There was this long silence and I just went, Please?” He added, “It is the most human I have ever felt because in my career. Sometimes you find it is like, ‘Can I do this?’ and people are like, Yeah.”

“You kind of get to a point where it becomes normal and then you are in a situation where you are literally on your knees being like, ‘Will you marry me?’ It is such a huge life decision someone has to make in the blink of an eye. Thankfully, she did say YES.”

Ed added of the proposal in Suffolk, “On the day it was ping down with rain and I’d built a fine pergola at the end of the garden to do it. Sunset, pergola, some wine… and it was p***ing down with rain. I kept saying we should go for a walk and she was like, No! I was like, Are you sure you don’t want to go for a walk? Time was ticking. There was a date engraved on the ring and I was like, ‘I’ve got to do it today!’ It gets to 9 pm and I was like, ‘For f***’s sake!”

The new interview came after it was revealed that Ed and Elton John are teaming up for this year’s Official Christmas Number 1. Ed revealed the news during an interview with NPO Radio 2 in the Netherlands, explaining that Elton had reached out to him last year. However, this news came after the 74-year-old songwriter’s hit Step Into Christmas which was released in 1973 – entered the charts for the first time during last year’s festive period.
