Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Discusses Depression Battles

Dwayne Johnson talks about facing depression at that time when he was at the university and injured his shoulder.

Recently, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson opened up about his personal life, and he revealed some of the most moving truths. The Black Adam actor spoke candidly about his struggles with melancholy during a recent visit on The Pivot podcast.

The actor insisted that his first experiences with depression began while he was a student at the University of Miami and was unable to participate in football practise due to a shoulder injury, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He said that he didn’t want to go to school. He was ready to leave. He left school. He didn’t take any midterms, and he just left. But the interesting thing he felt at that time was that he just didn’t know what it was. He further said he didn’t know what mental health and depression were. He simply knew he didn’t want to be there and that he wouldn’t be attending any team meetings or taking part in any activities.

Elaborating that he couldn’t work out due to his injury, making things worse as he was an athlete.

He further explained that years later, when he went through it again when he got divorced, he didn’t know what it was. Years later, around 2017, or he wants through a little bit. When he finally understood what it was, he was fortunate to have some pals by his side, and he said, “You know, I’m feeling a little wobbly now.” Instead of blue, I received a bit of grey.

As you see them, you realise, “Well, truly, this is what it’s all about,” the actor remarked, adding that his three daughters and “being a girl dad” have been his “saving grace” throughout his periods of sorrow.

Johnson also talked about how he strives to live a grateful life and recognise the good things that have supported him during his mental challenges. He also discussed how emotional coping mechanisms helped him deal with it, again emphasising that he was unaware of the existence of mental health issues for a long time.
