Drake Postpones Show After being Diagnosed With COVID-19

Drake has rescheduled his highly anticipated Young Money Reunion concert after he recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Drake disclosed in a statement that he just tested positive for COVID-19 and as a result, he will have to postpone the concert with Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. “I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for Covid and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the SOONEST date possible,” Drake said in a statement shared on Instagram on Monday, August 1.

The statement further reads, “I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked. Until then I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and I love you all I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the Covid).” Drake’s October World Weekend event was slated to take place from July 28 to August 1 and included a Young Money reunion concert at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage.

The event began on Thursday with an “All Canadian North Stars” night at the “Honestly, Nevermind” rapper’s History nightclub, where Nelly Furtado, another Canadian musician, stunned the audience by making a presence. “I don’t care how loud you sang tonight, right now, I need you to sing as loud as you can because this right here took a lot… This next person’s changed my life so much, I love her so much,” Drake told the audience before introducing Furtado to perform her classics ‘Promiscuous’ and ‘I’m Like a Bird’ her first live performance in five years.

Drake, Minaj, and Lil Wayne initially collaborated on “BedRock” in 2009, alongside Gudda Gudda, Tyga, Jae Millz, and Lloyd. They’ve subsequently worked on a number of additional songs, including 2014’s “Only” with Brown, 33, and “Truffle Butter” as well as 2021’s “Seeing Green” all of which would’ve been likely sung by the three on Monday.

During a Twitter Q&A in March, Nicki Minaj discussed the prospect of going on tour with Drake and Lil Wayne. She replied to a fan with, “Yes, of course, that’s been discussed many times,” she wrote in response to a fan. “Really a matter of timing. Also, IDK how all 3 of us would have enough time on stage to please all of our diff fans.” The postponed Young Money reunion show has not yet been given a new date.
