Disney+ Drops First Trailer Of Home Alone Prequel ‘Home Sweet Home Alone’

The reimagining of the beloved holiday movie is slated to premiere on Disney+ on November 12.

Disney+ released a look at its upcoming Christmas movie Home Sweet Home Alone, a reimagining of the Home Alone franchise. The trailer for the reboot introduces 10-year-old Max Mercer, played by Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), who accidentally left behind while his family travels to Tokyo for the holidays. At first, Max is delighted to learn that he has the entire house to himself and spends his time jumping off a trampoline with a medicine ball. But, when two married robbers, portrayed by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney, try to break into his home, Max crafts a plan.

“This is my house. I have to defend it,” he says as he stands in front of his ‘battle plan’ mapped out in chalk. While his parents try to book a flight home, Max is busy sawing off part of a baluster, launching billiard balls, and doing anything he can to drive the thieves away. The comedy also stars Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Aisling Bea, Pete Holmes, Devin Ratray, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell.

Home Sweet Home Alone’s screenplay is penned by Saturday Night Live’s Mikey Day as well as Streeter Seidell. Meanwhile, the home alone movie prequel is directed by Dan Mazer. However, Hutch Parker, p.g.a. and Dan Wilson, p.g.a. have produced the movie with Jeremiah Samuels serving as executive producer. The official synopsis of the home alone remake home sweet home alone reads, “The trailer for disney+’s all-new adventure comedy ‘Home Sweet Home Alone’ is here! The reimagining of the beloved holiday film franchise will debut on November 12, 2021, exclusively on Disney+.”

The prequel revives the classic holiday film, Home Alone, created by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. The original 1990 comedy, starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Catherine O’Hara, earned two Oscar nominations for original score and song and was followed by two sequels. However, home sweet home alone marks the first in a series of revivals Disney has planned post-Fox merger. Reboots of other popular Fox properties including Cheaper By the Dozen, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Night at the Museum are also currently in the works at disney+.

Meanwhile, it’s currently under wraps whether Home Sweet Home Alone takes place in the larger Home Alone universe, but viewers can also look forward to seeing original Home Alone star Devin Ratray (who played Kevin McCallister’s brother Buzz) show up at some point. Home Sweet Home Alone is slated to release on Disney+ on November 12, which is also known as ‘Disney+ Day.’
