Chris Rock On Will Smith Oscars Slap: That ‘Hurt’ But I ‘Shook It Off’

Chris Rock recently joked about promptly moving on after that controversial Oscars moment four months ago.

The world witnessed the shocking incident on tv history on March 27 when Will Smith walked Oscars 2022 onstage and slap Rock on live television after taking issue with the joke about his wife Jada. Will explained in a statement days later that the punchline was “too much for me to bear” and he “reacted emotionally.”

Though Smith won his first Oscar for Best Actor category, he was banned from attending the ceremony for 10 years. Smith also resigned from the Academy and publically apologised to Rock. Since then, Rock has made brief jokes at standup performances referencing the moment, but he hasn’t yet spoken about it in length. He has said he’ll “talk about it at some point” eventually.

However, Chris Rock recently joked about promptly moving on after that controversial Oscars moment four months ago, as per US Weekly. During his recent stand-up show alongside Kevin Hart, Rock reportedly addressed the infamous slap and said, “I’m not a victim.” Chris added, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.” The comedian added, “Yeah, that hurt… But I shook that off and went to work the next day. I don’t go to the hospital for a paper cut.”

Previously, during a show at The Wilbur in Boston, the comedian addressed the ordeal, telling the audience, “I’m still processing what happened.” The crowd screamed Rock’s name before his first appearance since the 94th Academy Awards. The comedian then took the stage dressed in all white and received a standing ovation. “What’s up, Boston?” he asked the crowd, before adding, “How was your weekend?!”

Comedian Chris Rock then added, according to per CNN, “I don’t have a bunch of s*** about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I had like a whole show I wrote before this weekend. After Rock said that he was still ‘processing’ what happened at this year’s Oscars, he told fans in the audience that he would probably talk about what happened at some point in a serious manner. While the crowd yelled ‘Will Smith’ during the show, Rock did not acknowledge the shouts.
