Chris Hemsworth’s new Netflix movie Spiderhead has topped the charts in 45 countries since its release on the streaming platform on June 17. And the actor, who is best known for playing Thor in the Marvel superhero movies, took to his Instagram and thanked his fans for supporting the movie. Chris wrote in the post, “A massive thank you to everyone who streamed Spiderhead and made it the #1 film on Netflix each day of its opening weekend in 45 countries and Top 10 in 93 countries!”
Thor star also thanked the cast, crew and team at Netflix, as well as director Joseph Kosinski and actors Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett. Hemsworth penned, “This would not have been possible without all of you, our incredible crew, the extremely talented cast and filmmakers, and of course our powerhouse team at @netflix.” Thor: Love And Thunder star added, “It was incredible to work alongside director #JosephKosinski and #MilesTeller @jurneesmollett.”
He concluded while noting, “We are all so so proud of this film. Love you guys and thank you!” In Spiderhead, Chris starred as a mad scientist Steve Abnesti, who tests mood-altering drugs on convicts in a state-of-the-art prison complex. Spiderhead’s plot synopsis reads, “In the near future, convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects to shorten their sentence. One such subject for a new drug capable of generating feelings of love begins questioning the reality of his emotions.”
Previously, in an interview, he shared that he jumped at the chance to move away from the blockbuster superhero genre. Hemsworth said, “I wanted something more contained and something that just focused on character, and this thing came along and I grabbed a hold of it.” Chris Hemsworth will next star in Thor: Love and Thunder which is scheduled to release in theatres on July 7.
The upcoming Marvel movie will follow Thor who enlists the help of Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make the gods extinct. In addition to the return of Chris Hemsworth, Thompson, Waititi, and Portman, Thor: Love and Thunder cast also includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula.
