Chris Brown Files $500 Million Defamation LawSuit

According to Variety, Chris Brown has accused producers of Warner Bros. and Ample, of ‘libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress through defamatory claims made against him.’ Further, he claimed that the evidence provided by them is ‘completely false.’ The lawsuit read, “Since the beginning of October of 2024, Ample LLC and Warner Brothers were put on notice that they were promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment of Chris Brown. Ultimately, on October 27, 2024, they aired ‘Chris Brown: A History of Violence’ (the ‘Documentary’), knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalist principles.”

Talking about the documentary that released in October, the story in it explores accusations of domestic violence and sexual assault against Brown. Central to its narrative is Jane Doe, who in 2022 sued Brown for sexual assault for allegedly raping her at Sean Combs’ Miami Beach-based yacht. Although the lawsuit was later dismissed “without prejudice,” meaning it can be refiled, but Brown’s name was forever associated with the allegations. Reacting upon the same, Brown’s legal team mentioned that the then-accuser Jane Doe’s sayings were fabricated and Warner Bros. producers should’ve known about it before using them as her “dishonest claims” were exposed via text messages.

Brown states that he informed the producers of the documentary about the inaccuracies in the film, but they still did not implement any changes before airing it. “Their actions exhibit actual malice, as they prioritized profit over facts, ignoring publicly available court records and other credible evidence,” the complaint read, indicating that public figures must demonstrate, according to the legal criteria, that any purportedly defamatory remarks were made with an awareness of their falsehood or with a disregard for the truth.
