Celebs Reacted To Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock At Oscar 2022

While rapper 50 Cent joked about the altercation on Twitter, Nicki Minaj voiced her opinion in a long string of tweets.

Will Smith stunned the star-studded audience and everyone watching at home when he took to the stage and smacked Chris Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss at the 2022 Oscars. While many speculated the exchange was scripted, the reactions from both Smith and Rock, particularly after the slap, proved to be genuine. Smith later publicly apologized to Rock. However, Hollywood celebrities have mixed reactions to the incident that shook the world.

While rapper 50 Cent joked about the altercation on Twitter, Nicki Minaj voiced her opinion in a long string of tweets. Former One Direction member Liam Payne also weighed in on the fight and seemed to support Smith. “I believe whatever he felt that he did, he had the right to do,” the singer told Good Morning Britain. Payne also said Smith’s emotional speech and apology over the incident was a “powerful moment,” where “one of the world’s best emoters” spoke, “from the heart.”

Cardi B tweeted the quote that Denzel Washington said to Will Smith before the Oscar event. And it reads, “At your highest moment… be careful that’s when the devil tries to come for you.” And actor Jamie Dornan tweeted, “What a fight, sorry, Night!” However, actress Sophia Bush added, “Violence isn’t ok. Assault is never the answer. Also? This is the 2nd time that Chris has made fun of Jada on the #Oscars stage, & tonight he went after her alopecia. Punching down at someone’s auto-immune disease is wrong. Doing so on purpose is cruel. They both need a breather.”

Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin tweeted, “I am not reading much about how, or even if, the producers attended to Chris,” the embattled actor tweeted and posted to Instagram. “But I love you @chrisrock. And I’m sorry the Oscars turned into the Jerry Springer Show.” Mark Hamill also reacted to the incident while tweeting, “Stand-up comics are very adept at handling hecklers. Violent physical assault… not so much.”
