Camila Cabello auditioned for The X Factor and formed part of the girl band Fifth Harmony almost a decade ago. And now a solo sensation, Camila Cabello has revealed for the first time her true intention behind auditioning for the singing competition. The chart-topper was the latest star to grace the passenger seat in James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke and she told the Late Late Show host that she had a huge crush on Harry Styles.
Camila also admitted that her crush on Harry Styles spurred her on to apply for the show that kickstarted her thriving career. Confessing she was a huge fan of One Direction, the boy band which Harry found fame on X Factor in 2010, Camila told James, “This is really embarrassing and I can only say this because it’s like 10 years ago… but I was literally like, ‘I’m auditioning for X Factor because I will marry Harry Styles!’ I really believed that at the time.”
Camila explained, “I didn’t think we were going to get married but I was like, ‘I’m gonna audition for X Factor, we’re gonna meet and I’m gonna become a singer and we’ll probably fall in love!’ That’s the first time I’ve ever confessed the real intention behind me auditioning for X Factor!”

Camila auditioned for the show as a solo contestant in 2012, in the same way, Harry did two years prior. After being eliminated during the boot camp stage, she was called back along with Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui and Dinah Jane, who went on to form Fifth Harmony. The girl band, under the mentoring of Simon Cowell, placed third and was branded the ‘biggest girl group of the 2010s’ by Billboard.
Elsewhere, in a nod to her hit Liar, James made Camila undergo a lie detector test. The star, who split from Canadian singer Shawn Mendes in November 2021, answered no on a ‘technicality’ to ‘have you slid into any DMs’, which flagged up as a lie. Yet she was sure to leave tongues wagging when she answered yes, a truth, to ‘has anyone verified slid into your DMs’.
