Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have announced their breakup on Thursday. In a statement posted to Instagram, the couple has decided to end their romantic relationship. However, they will continue their relationship as friends.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello both took to Instagram stories and wrote, “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever.” They added, “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
Camila and Shawn began dating in July 2019, shortly after the music video for Senorita dropped. Meanwhile, during the coronavirus pandemic, Shawn and Camila moved to Miami to be with the Cabello family, which the singer described as a “really beautiful experience.”
However, it is hard for fans to believe as they look so much in love. The couple celebrated their second anniversary this summer. The couple are best friends before they started dating each other. While promoting his album Wonder, Shawn Mendes spoke about how close he’s always been with Camila even before they started dating, saying, “She’s been one of my best friends since I was, like, 15 years old.”
Wonder singer explained that they weren’t rushing into an engagement despite rumors and their close bond. “I know we are really young so I don’t want to jump, like, insanely fast,” Shawn said, adding, “but I think when you find your person, you feel and you know that you have found your person.”
Meanwhile, last year in November Shawn shared in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, “It was the first time I was quiet and I was able to be like, ‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?'” The singer added, “That was the best gift I think I’ve ever, ever been given in my whole life.”
Shawn earlier revealed that when you’re in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you.” He also said that a relationship is not as simple as it looks in pictures sometimes. Moreover, the couple began seeking counseling in an effort to improve their relationship with each other. In October, Camila told Glamour that it’s because of therapy that they are able to “trust each other so much.”
