American Music Awards 2021: BTS Teams Up With Coldplay To Perform Their Hit Song ‘My Universe’

BTS was the big winner of the night as they took home three trophies including, Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop Duo or Group, and Favorite Pop Song.

The Korean pop band and the British rock band team up to perform their latest song My Universe during the awards show, held at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night. The song was released in late September, debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. The record-breaking song made history as the first track by two co-billed lead groups to top the singles chart.

The performance was introduced with enthusiasm by host Cardi B, who informed the crowd, before the band was revealed on stage, with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joined by the seven-man Korean group comprised of J-Hope, Jin, V, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga, and RM (BTS member name), “America, please! I know the crowd is about to get crazy. Hold on, hold, This next performance is about to be huge! They have the biggest fans in the world. Performing together for the first time together, give it up for Coldplay and BTS.”

Though BTS didn’t perform a signature choreographed dance routine, they interacted with fans in the crowd, who cheered enthusiastically throughout the performance. In the end, both BTS and Coldplay engaged in a dance party of sorts. The song ended with an explosive array of fireworks on stage which dazzled the crowd in attendance. “Coldplay BTS, thank you!” the group said as they blew kisses to the camera.

However, BTS was also scheduled to perform Butter with Megan Thee Stallion on Sunday, but an “unexpected personal matter” forced Megan to bow out, she revealed on Twitter Saturday. Butter was released in May and immediately became a hit, smashing a YouTube record for simultaneous viewers after more than 3.89 million fans tuned in at the same time to see the music video.
