K-Pop boy band BTS on Monday performs at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as the special presidential envoy for future generations from their native South Korea. The band also addressed the youth and expressed their faith in young people’s ability to imagine a better world despite the pandemic.
Because of their fame and reach, the boy band will be joining South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment 2021 at the General Assembly Hall, beginning at 8 pm on September 20, Monday (in India, it’s Tuesday evening).
The most popular band includes Jimin, J-Hope, Jin, Suga, RM, Jungkook, and V. The band with fans for their chartbusters has certainly taken K-pop to a global platform with their exciting performances and global fan following.
The Grammy-nominated band expressed hope for a better future with group leader RM saying, “We thought the world has stopped but it continues to move forward. I believe that every choice we make is the beginning of change, not the end.”
They completed the speech with the music performance of Permission to Dance that first saw the band singing in the General Assembly Hall, and then moving to the lobby. They ended the performance by doing the ‘international sign’ gestures for Joy, Dance, and Peace alongside dancers on the North Lawn.

Recently, the band members met the South Korean president for an official ceremony. There they were appointed as special presidential envoys for future generations and culture. They accepted the diplomatic passport offered by the government and then landed in New York on September 18 to prepare for the performance at the 76th UNGA event on September 20. Apart from performing, the band will also address the youth and deliver a third UN speech.
Last week, BTS tweeted about their fight for one of Moment’s goals. The tweet reads, “If we believe there’s hope, we will find the way. We stand against racial discrimination and hate speech.
