Brendon Fraser Played The Villain In The Shelved ‘Batgirl’ Film

Brendon also revealed that not only was he casted to play Firefly, but he also shot all of his scenes for the film.

Back in 2017 Warner Brothers had announced that they are making a new film on Batgirl and Brendon Fraser who has once again came back into limelight for his performance in Daren Aronofsky’s psychological drama ‘The Whale (2022)’, was cast to play the main villain ‘Firefly’. But for some reason, the whole film got shelved.

During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Brendon spelled the beans about the film and his character. He revealed that not only was he casted, but he also shot all of his scenes. “I was in Batgirl, we shot that thing entirely. But it’s probably in a vault somewhere or in some dumpster”.

He also revealed some interesting details about his character, “It’s a story about a guy who had been in a service and his benefits were cut and he is very angry with the system. On paper it was a really really good role, I relished this part”, he said.

Originally announced back in 2017, with Joss Whedon attached to direct, the film got shelved after the failure of The Justice League. Then in May of 2021, Bad Boys For Life (2020) directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were asked to direct this film with Leslie Grace as the titular hero and Brendan Fraser as the main villain Firefly. But Warner Bros. decided to shelve the nearly completed feature film.

54 year old Brendon Fraser who was a big star in late 1990’s and early 2000’s recently made an epic comeback into playing lead roles with ‘The Whale’, which premiere in the 79th Venice Film Festival, and received standing ovation at the festival. In Darren Aronofsky’s film, Brendon plays 600lb English literature lecturer who wants to reconnect with his teenage daughter.

On the work front, Brendon will be next seen in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) where he will be sharing a screen space with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, and Brothers (2023) alongside Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage.
