Beau Is Afraid Trailer Out: Joaquin Phoenix Loses Grip Of Reality In This Surreal Survival Drama

Helmed by Hereditary (2018), Midsommar (2019) fame director Ari Aster, the survival drama is expected to arrive in cinemas on 21 April 2023

Filmmaker Ari Aster who rose to fame with Hereditary (2018) and Midommar (2019), is now back with yet another mind numbing survival drama which features Joaquin Phoenix in a lead role. The recently released trailer doesn’t give you much idea about the film’s plot except that it’s going to be yet another mind warping surreal drama filled with some fantastical elements.

Joaquin Phoenix seems to be playing an anxious man who wants to visit his mother. But his journey takes him through various fantastical elements as he tries to make sense of his world. The trailer opens with Joaquin Phoenix planning to visit his mother. 

But as he begins his journey he meets with a car accident and soon his world turns upside down. We see him getting kidnapped, making his way through riots and forest. And to make matters even worse, he also seems to have lost sense of reality and gets caught up in some fantastical world. We also see his jump through different timelines and some alternate universes.The trailer also takes us on a trippy journey of his life where we see him as a simple young boy to an old man. 

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot but it does a good job at building up excitement for the film with some trippy mind numbing visuals. And just like Ari Aster’s previous directorial ventures, it’s pretty clear from this trailer that we will again get to see something unique. Filmmaker Ari Aster has put his own spin on this simple adventure tale. 

Bankrolled by A24, Beau Is Afraid also stars Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zoe Lister-Jones, Armen Nahapetian, with Parker Posey and Patti LuPone. The film is set to arrive in cinemas on 21 April 2023. 

Meanwhile, Joaquin Phoenix who bagged  Academy Award for best actor for his performance in the 2019 film Joker, will be again seen reprising his role of Joker in the much awaited sequel titled Joker: Folie a Deux, which will arrive in cinemas on 4 October 2024. The sequel will also be helmed by Todd Philips.
