‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Officially Breaks ‘Titanic’ Box Office Records

James Cameron officially breaks his box office record. The highly anticipated sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, continues to make and break records at the box office globally. The sci-fi film just surpassed the director’s other blockbuster, Titanic. Avatar 2 now becomes the third-highest-grossing film in history internationally at the box office.

Avatar: The Way Of Water box office collection worldwide has already reached $1.5 billion. And the blockbuster sequel to 2009’s Avatar is just a few figures away to catch up to its original instalment, which holds the number one title at $2.1 billion. The sequel is just behind Avengers: Endgame as the Marvel film is in second place at $1.9 in ticket sales. The sequel made Cameron’s three out of four of the highest-grossing film on the list.

The Avatar sequel is expected to pass its original film at a worldwide box office collection by next week. As far as top-grossing countries for The Way of Water, China leads the market, followed by France, Germany and Korea. Meanwhile, the sequel, which is nominated for Best Picture at the 2023 Oscars, also stars Sigourney Weaver, Titanic star Kate Winslet and Stephen Lang alongside, Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington.

Avatar: The Way of Water revolves around Jake, played by Worthington and Neytiri’s family and the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Filmmaker James Cameron had previously been open about his thoughts ahead of releasing the long-awaited sequel, particularly considering the pandemic’s effects on moviegoing. The director shared, “The big issue is: Are we going to make any damn money? Big, expensive films have got to make a lot of money.”
