After Elvis, Austin Butler Will Play Crime Boss Danny Ryan In “City On Fire”

After being nominated for the biopic of Elvis Presley Austin Butler is set to play a mafia in City on Fire.

The Oscar-nominated Elvis Presley biopic made Austin Butler an overnight star and now will star in City on Fire, an adaptation of Don Winslow’s novel for Sony 3000 Pictures. This will be Butler’s first film as a producer alongside David Heyman and Shane Salerno. The studio has made this a priority and will be meeting with the writers and directors promptly.

The deal brings Butler back to Sony Pictures, where he first starred as Tex in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. City on Fire is the first title in a new trilogy, so Butler is hoping for his first break in the franchise after starring in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.

The trilogy revolves around two crime empires, one Irish and one Italian, that control all of New England. A modern-day Helen of Troy event separates them and a brutal war begins. Butler stars as the main character Danny Ryan, who is forced to go from street soldier to ruthless leader to protect his friends, family, and beloved home. Battling the mob, local police, and the FBI, Danny intends to build a dynasty or die trying. (Deadline)
