Due to the coronavirus pandemic, US cinema theaters have shut nationwide, turning dark almost all of the country's 40,000-plus screens into unparalleled shutdowns.

With many of the March and April releases in Hollywood already postponed, the Walt Disney Co also confirmed its May releases on Tuesday, including Marvel's "Black Widow."

The Walt Disney Co has also postponed "Black Widow" indefinitely, which was scheduled to release May 1. For years, marvel films were the daily kick-off to the season-going summer movie. The business has also put off “David Copperfield (May 8) and “The Woman in the Window” (May 15) releases.

The spread of coronavirus has decimated the theater industry in action. Blockbuster movies like "No Time to Die," "F9" and Disney's own "Mulan" were all held back and the virus forced major theater chains such as AMC (AMC) and Regal (RBC) to shut theaters nationwide.

"Black Widow" was the recent movie in the cinematic universe of Marvel Studios, and was scheduled to begin the summer movie season, potentially the most lucrative time for Hollywood.

Disney's superhero studios are among Hollywood's most successful box office brands.

According to Comscore (SCOR), Marvel Studios ' films have contributed more than $22 billion worldwide. "Avengers: Endgame" last year became the highest-grossing movie in history.
