Late Wednesday, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department reported that Rivera, 33, was the person being searched for in the waters of Lake Piru, which is about 56 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, or 90 kilometers.
On Wednesday, the 33-year-old Glee alumna and her 4-year-old son Josey Dorsey rented a pontoon boat on the lake and floated in the cold. During his three-hour hire, as the boat was overdue for return, workers at the lake spotted it on the north side of the water with her sleeping son onboard, but not Rivera.
KNBC confirmed late Wednesday that Rivera rented a pontoon boat at Lake Piru reservoir on Wednesday and found her young son wearing a life vest on the boat. The identification of Rivera was found on ships. Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff's officials decided to launch a boat and helicopter search but that was suspended by night. The search continues early Thursday.
The search for Naya Rivera will continue this morning at Lake Piru. The lake will be closed to the public while search operations continue. Rivera has played Santana, a cheerleader in the "Glee" music-comedy that aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015. Rivera appeared in 113 episodes of the show and dated her co-star Mark Salling, who, after pleading guilty to child pornography charges, killed himself in 2018.
The day before she went missing, the actress posted on Instagram a photograph of herself and her son, captioning it "just the two of us."
