Aquaman & Shazam Sequels Push Back, Here’s New Release Dates

Jason Momoa starring Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will not hit theatres in 2023.

Fans have to wait more! Warner Bros. has reshuffled Aquaman and Shazam! sequels release dates. The James Wan-directed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was scheduled to release on March 17, 2023. However, the studio has recently announced that Jason Momoa’s upcoming film has been pushed back more than eight months and now it will hit theatres on December 25, 2023.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see the return of Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, as well as Patrick Wilson’s Orm Marius and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta. It was recently revealed that Ben Affleck’s Batman will return for Aquaman 2. The upcoming film also stars, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman.

The first Aquaman was a major earner for Warner Bros./DC, grossing more than $1 billion at the global box office. The official synopsis of Aquaman 2 reads, “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.” Meanwhile, Shazam! Fury of the Gods was scheduled to come out in December this year. However, the upcoming sequel has landed on Aquaman 2′s old date, March 17, 2023.

The upcoming superhero film stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, and Helen Mirren. The first instalment of Shazam was about a family of teenage heroes led by Billy Batson a.k.a Shazam, who fight the daughters of Atlas. However, the upcoming sequel will follow Shazam, who takes on the villainous Hespera and Kalypso, daughters of the Greek titan Atlas.
