The eagerly anticipated third part of The Princess Diaries movie series has been officially approved. The popular movie series, which is based on Meg Cabot’s young adult novel, will feature Anne Hathaway returning to play Princess Mia of Genovia.

Hathaway officially announced the news on her Instagram account late into the night of Friday. In a video selfie, she included snippets from the first two movies and delivered the famous “Shut up!” line, which thrilled her fans.

Variety reports that The Princess Diaries 3 is in the works, with Debra Martin Chase returning as the producer, the one who kick-started the series. Anne Hathaway is expected to oversee the movie through her production firm, Somewhere Pictures.

The movie has been in the works for a duration of two years, and Anne Hathaway had hinted at this to her followers in an interview from the previous year, mentioning, “We’re in a good position. There’s no announcement currently, but we’re in a good position.” It appears that production is now progressing.

The Princess Diaries saga chronicles Mia Thermopolis, a typical teen who discovers her father, who was once the King of Genovia, a made-up European realm. Her grandmother, played by Julie Andrews, makes her debut, encouraging Mia to accept her noble lineage and get ready to ascend to the throne.

The third part of the series is set to introduce a new wave of enthusiasm with the addition of a new leader. Adele Lim, who is famous for her role in Crazy Rich Asians, has been appointed as the director for this part. According to a statement posted by Variety, Lim shared her enthusiasm: “Being a devoted supporter of the first Princess Diaries, I’m incredibly excited to contribute to the continuation of this story. We’re eager to honor the messages of female strength, happiness, and guidance to viewers across the globe.”
