Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ accidental death by veteran actor of nearly 100 films and television shows, Alec Baldwin in October 2021 during a shoot of his film Rust, has been one of major talking points in Hollywood for over 15 months. Last month Alec was also charged with involuntary manslaughter for the same.
Now the parents and sister of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins have also filed a lawsuit on Thursday against Alec Baldwin and the producers of “Rust’. Filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the lawsuit alleges negligence, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and loss of consortium, their attorney, Gloria Allred, said in a press conference.
Hutchins’ parents and sister, who still live in Ukraine, are trying to deal with the loss of a family member while living in the midst of the war, Allred said. Hutchins’ mother is an emergency operating room nurse, while her sister’s husband is fighting on the front lines, Allred said in conference.
In a video statement, which was dubbed into English from Russian, Hutchins’ younger sister, Svetlana Zemko, said “To lose my sister at least personally for me was a horrible experience and it is one of the biggest losses of my life, and even more devastating is to see the utter suffering of our parents and how their health has sharply declined.”
For the unversed, while preparing to film a gunfight sequence for his western film Rust in New Mexico in October 2021, Baldwin was handed a .45 Colt replica revolver and the gun went off, striking Hutchins in the chest before passing through her body.
