Adele Reveals Friendship With Drake Is One Of The ‘Biggest Gifts’ Of Her Career

Despite breaking all kinds of opening day records, Drake's sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy sales will likely be outshone by Adele's 30.

The Easy On Me singer and the Canadian rapper have grown close due to their similar lifestyle, being worldwide superstars, and all that! Meanwhile, Drake, 35, referred to Adele, 33, as one of his ‘best friends in the world’ while promoting her comeback earlier this year.

Talking to Tom Power on the Canadian radio station CBC Radio, Adele said that their similar experiences in the industry have led to their closeness. She said, “We are a dying breed. There were like 10 of us. You know, I don’t think there’ll ever be that many of us again at the top doing it the way we were doing it.” Adele continues, “We came out before streaming. We came out before all the social media frenzies of like, You’ve got five seconds to entertain, otherwise, get out. We existed in the old school-ness of the industry that we grew up watching and aspiring to be part of.”

30 singer went on expressing, “Having access to someone else that knows exactly what it’s like to be in a certain position sometimes… If I try and talk to one of my other friends about it, they’ll have no idea what I’m talking about. They’re like, ‘Can’t relate!’ So they just switch off.” The star added, “I can say something to Drake and he won’t judge me for it, you know? So to have access to someone that’s in the same position as me is one of the biggest gifts of my entire career.”

Meanwhile, Drake’s sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy hit number one in the US and the UK earlier this year, but despite breaking all kinds of opening day records, its sales will likely be outshone by Adele’s 30. According to Deadline, in the midweek charts, the album was outperforming the rest of the top 40 combined, and with 167,000 chart sales, was gaining on ABBA’s record for the biggest opening week of 2021 with Voyage racking up 204,000 first week sales earlier this month.

However, Adele is also battling with herself on the singles chart, with Easy On Me, Oh My God and My Little Love fighting for the top spot. 30 was promoted by two specials on either side of the pond, with Drake watching his friend perform in LA for the CBS special One Night Only. An equally star-studded audience then enjoyed an audience with Adele at the London Palladium, which aired on ITV last week.
