After the huge success of the sci-fi horror film, the M3GAN sequel has been confirmed. Violet McGraw, who starred as an orphan girl, Cady, took to her social media and confirmed the M3GAN sequel. The actress confirmed that she will reprise her role and penned, ‘It’s happening! @meetm3gan 2.0!’
Screenwriter Akela Cooper also shared her excitement for the sequel. She took to her social media and gushed, “So happy it’s finally out,” adding, “M3gan will see you all again in 2025. In the meantime enjoy the peace and quiet.”
Meanwhile, in a previous interview, producer Jason Blum said, “After I first saw the movie, we had a good sense that a sequel might really work.” He added, “So, we broke our cardinal rule and we started talking about a sequel before the movie was released. I felt so bullish that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do.”
The sequel announcement came after the horror film amassed $95.3M at the global box office from a $12M budget. Additionally, the movie scored a ‘certified fresh’ 95% critic approval rating, out of 255 reviews, on Rotten Tomatoes. The film follows the eponymous artificially intelligent doll who develops self-awareness and becomes hostile towards anyone who comes between her and her human companion. Meanwhile, the plot details about the upcoming sequel have been kept under wraps.
The upcoming sequel titled M3GAN 2.0 will see the return of the murderous Model 3 Generative Android, as well as its creator, played by Allison Williams, and her niece aka M3gan’s former bestie, played by Violet McGraw. Also returning is original screenwriter Akela Cooper, along with producers James Wan and Jason Blum. However, Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first film, didn’t confirm whether he will return or not. Plot details remain sparse.
M3GAN 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on January 17, 2025.
