A$AP Rocky and his girlfriend Rihanna welcomed their first child together earlier this month and recently the rapper looked back at the start of his romance with Rihanna for his cover story in the Summer 2022 issue of Dazed magazine. The rapper recalled how his love first grew close to him when she starred in his 2013 music video for his single Fashion Killa.
While recalling the moment, he said it seemed as if ‘the stars were aligned,’ when the two artists came into each other’s orbit. Rocky co-directed the Fashion Killa video with his late friend Virgil Abloh, and Rihanna costarred in the video with him. The rapper had previously developed a friendship with Rihanna when he was her tour opener. “I was just on tour with my lady, you know?”
The rapper explained of the music video, “We wanted it to feel like a love story, a fairytale with a street twist.” He added, “I expected my core following to be receptive, but with Virgil in the mix, its success was a no-brainer.” Rocky recalled how he and Rihanna would stroll ‘arm-in-arm’ down the street in Manhattan’s Soho neighbourhood, where the Work singer had just bought a penthouse, in looks designed by Abloh.

The rapper also spoke about raising a child with Rihanna, though he didn’t directly address their new son, whom they welcomed earlier this month. While revealing that he’s a fan of childhood staples like cartoons, Rocky explained, “I will always remind my children to never lose their imagination, even as adults, no matter what.” “I actually love to watch cartoons I’ve watched like, Teletubbies, Blue’s Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba, Peppa Pig and Baby Shark.”
Though rumours swirled for years that A$AP and Rihanna were dating following the collaboration, it wasn’t until December 2019 that the two seemed to be getting particularly cosy when they posed together on the red carpet at the British Fashion Awards. By January 2020, the two were reported to be dating, even though they refused to comment on the relationship publically. Their red carpet debut came at the 2021 Met Gala, which the hitmaker also discussed with the magazine.
