The Tesla founder — Elon Musk who welcomed son X AE A-Xii with Grimes in May — revealed in a recent interview with The New York Times that his 32-year-old girlfriend was taking on the role when it comes to taking care of their baby boy.
“Well, babies are just eating and pooping machines, you know? Right now there’s not much I can do,” said Musk.
“Grimes has a much bigger role than me right now,” he said to the singer, whom he called “pretty special” and “one of the most unusual people I’ve ever met.”
“When the kid gets older, there will be more of a role for me,” Musk added.
Musk also told the Times that he was looking back at his relationship with his five older sons for ideas about how to connect later with his newborn, who the couple named “X.” (Musk’s first son, Nevada, died suddenly of SIDS when he was 10 weeks old in 2002).

“I think just doing what I’ve done with my other kids,” Musk, 49, said of his fatherly role. “If I have a trip for Tesla to China, for example, I’ll bring the kids with me and we’ll go see the Great Wall or we took the bullet train from Beijing to Xian and saw the Terracotta Warriors.”
The SpaceX CEO even set up an online school for his older children, which he said had “actually worked out pretty.” Musk recently posted a picture of himself and X on Twitter, enjoying quality time together, amid his busy work schedule.
Talking about the baby’s eyes lovingly, Musk captioned the post in German “Das baby kann noch keinen löffel benutzen,” which translates into English, “The baby cannot use a spoon yet.”
Musk and Grimes originally named their baby boy X A-12, but a birth certificate from The Blast revealed that the pair had changed the unusual name to X AE A-Xii.
The birth certificate displays the child’s first name as X, while the original middle name — which included the “Æ” sign and the number “12”—was changed to AE A-Xii.
The mother of one had previously given fans some insight into what their son’s unusual name meant, explaining on Twitter that X represents “the unknown variable” and “Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence).”
