“Darte Hain Log Unse”, Gulshan Devaiah On Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Anger

Rising above his fashion degree from NIFT and making a good hold in the Bollywood industry, actor Gulshan Devaiah’s success can not go unnoticed. Gaining recognition from film Hunterr, to working with renowned faces like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Anurag Kashyap, Deepika Padukone, and Janhvi Kapoor – this Bengaluru boy has come a long way. Now that he has spent 13 years in the industry, Gulshan Devaiah in an exclusive interview with Lehren revealed why filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali starts throwing away things at the shoot set in anger, and why people are scared of the man.

Gulshan recently spoke to Lehren Retro where he talked about his experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor portrayed as ‘Bhavani’ in his blockbuster film Goliyon ki raasleela – Ramleela. On being asked about Bhansali and his anger, Gulshan said, “darte hain log unse. Kyuki wo bohot serious bhi rehte hai”. The Ulajh actor described the director as one of the most passionate filmmakers of Bollywood, but also very demanding. Gulshan tells about how Sanjay Leela Bhansali wants his actors to be as passionate as him while working on a project together. When this fails to happen, he starts throwing away things randomly, expressing sheer aggresion.

Further, he adds that the director has a lot of love and dedication for every film that he creates. “Wo bohot inspiring hai, unka ek pace hai, apko us pace se adjust krna padega“, Gulshan added in the conversation. In the interaction with Lehren Retro, Gulshan also revealed the real reason of saying ‘yes’ to the adult-comedy film – Hunterr and how he had different assumptions of the story-genre.

As the star recently worked in film Ulajh, opposite Janhvi Kapoor, he expresses his views on the film’s failure, calling his co-star Janhvi a super hard-working lady. Comparing himself to her, Gulshan Devaiah said “I’m not that hard-working. But she definitely is. Many people in the industry are more hardworking than me.”
