Why is Yami Gautam Accused of Disrespecting Assamese Gamosa?

This weekend, actress Yami Gautam arrived at Guwahati airport when a fan attempted to put an Assamese ‘gamosa’, a traditional scarf, around her neck as to welcome her. The actress was unaware of this and certainly pushed away his hand and her assistants told the man to go back.

Clips of the unpleasant incident went on social networking sites. The Bala star was blamed for’ disrespecting’ traditional Assamese clothes and hurting sentiments. Yami posted on Twitter an explanation stating that while she didn’t want to hurt the feelings of anyone, it’s also important to raise voice against unacceptable behavior.

The actress replied to a tweet from the Assamese media outlet she wrote, “My reaction was simply self-defense. As a woman, if I am uncomfortable with anyone getting too close to me, I or any other girl has every right to express it. I Dint’ intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments but it’s very important to voice out a behavior, inappropriate in any manner (sic).”

The actress also stated it was her third visit to Assam, and she always shared her love for Assamese culture and people.

Yami eventually shared a picture donning a ‘gamosa’ at the Great Guwahati Marathon 2020 flagging off.
