Why did Bipasha Basu Refuse to Work with Kareena Kapoor Khan After Film Ajnabee?

Bipasha Basu was once regarded as one of the prominent dusky beauties in commercial cinema. However, her selection of unsuitable films led to a decline in her status, transitioning from a leading actress in A-list productions to a supporting role in A-list films and a lead role in horror movies. Currently, she has significantly diminished her presence in Bollywood and is rarely offered any roles.

Bollywood has a history of notorious disputes that often ignite rumors and speculation among fans. A particularly well-known altercation occurred between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Bipasha Basu during the filming of their 2001 movie Ajnabee. Interestingly, Bobby Deol’s wife, Tanya Deol, was also involved in this conflict, having engaged in a heated argument with Kareena. For those unfamiliar with the situation, Bobby was part of the film as well. The tension began when Tanya chose to assist Bipasha with her costumes, as Bipasha was relatively new to the industry.

The altercation between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Bipasha Basu during the filming of Ajnabee has garnered significant attention. Allegedly, Kareena referred to Bipasha as ‘Kaali Beeli.’ The incident reportedly began when Kareena’s designer, Vikram Phadnis, assisted Bipasha without Kareena’s approval. In response, Bipasha criticized Kareena’s actions as immature and declared her intention to avoid future collaborations with her.

Tanya Deol’s assistance to Bipasha Basu was met with disapproval from Kareena Kapoor Khan’s mother, Babita Kapoor. In response, Tanya engaged in a dispute with the seasoned actress regarding the matter. This confrontation incited anger in Kareena, who was displeased with Deol’s manner of addressing her mother. Consequently, a fierce argument ensued between the two, which nearly escalated to the point where Tanya reportedly attempted to slap the actress.

Ajnabee is an action thriller film released in 2001, directed by the duo Abbas–Mustan. The cast features prominent actors such as Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor, and Bipasha Basu, who made her debut in this film. Critics offered mixed reviews, commending the performances of Kumar and Basu. The film achieved moderate success at the box office. Akshay Kumar received the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role, while Bipasha Basu was honored with the award for Best Female Debut.
