Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s relationship was the talk of the town in the 1990s. They were very good friends at first, and then their friendship turned into love when Amitabh Bachchan approved of their relationship. The Bachchans and Kapoors were quite close, and they wanted to turn their friendship into love.
After some time, both families fixed Karisma and Abhishek’s engagement. During the shooting of Meine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, the duo got close together and dated each other for five years. Karisma and Abhishek were both happy with their relationship, and the Bachchan family also accepted her as their daughter-in-law. Big B also announced their official engagement publicly on his 60th birthday.
Karisma never thought shy Abhishek could ever propose to her publicly. In an interview, the actress revealed that he proposed to her with a diamond ring. Karisma was surprised by this and gladly said yes.
But four months after getting engaged, their happily ever after took a turn for the worst. The entire Bollywood industry was completely taken aback by the news of their split. Both families were to blame for that breakup, even if the exact reasons were never made known.
The Bachchan family was accused by the Kapoor family of pressuring Karishma to give up acting after she got married. Karishma was performing back-to-back hits at the height of her fame. Obviously, she didn’t agree to that. However, this was by no means the main factor in their breakup.

There was yet another factor that left this love story unresolved. According to rumours, the prank that caused their breakup was particularly pulled by Karishma’s mother. Babita placed a great deal of pressure on the Bachchan family for her older daughter, Karishma. To ensure her future stability, she first asked that Big B register half of his assets in her daughter’s name before the couple’s nuptials. Amitabh Bacchan ultimately declined, which left Karishma’s mother a little miffed.
Second, Babita desired that Karishma and Abhishek reside apart from Bachchan Villa. This time, Jaya Bachchan was unable to maintain her composure, and Amitabh and Jaya both decided to call off their engagement. Jaya did not enjoy the idea that Babita’s impolite proposition might split the Bachchan family.
Karishma and Abhishek were both completely uninvolved because no one could oppose their family. Karishnma’s mother wasn’t prepared to find a solution together. Finally, the two parted ways. Karishma’s mother, Babita, was certain that her marriage wouldn’t last very long. Karishma’s career in Bollywood also worried her.
