In an exclusive flashback interview with Lehren, playback singer Amit Kumar once got candid about songs, music, career & his legendary father Kishore Kumar's great musical lineage.

Amit Kumar is amongst the top celebrated singers of Bollywood since the 70’s. Born to the Legendary actor-musician superstar Kishore Kumar, the singer garnered humongous fame through his hit track – Bade Achchhe Lagte Hain in 1976, which was composed by the great R.D Burman, under whom Amit Dada recorded a total of 170 melodious songs.

The talented artist has lent his voice to some stellar hits like Yaad Aa Rahi Hai, Aati Rahengi Baharen, Dekho Maine Dekha Hai Ek Sapna, Makhna, Bole Chudiyan & many more. Kumar was honoured with the Filmfare Award For Best Playback Singer Male category for his blockbuster track – Yaad Aa Rahi Hai (Love Story) in the year 1981.

While introducing himself in the interview, Amit Kumar called himself a singer from the industry who has been a part of the same since decades, who started his journey in 1974 where there were legends like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle & others ruling all over, which in turn was a great learning experience for the budding singer. The musician also extended his gratitude towards top music-directors of the musical world including R.D Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji, Anu Malik & Rajesh Roshan who collaborated with him for delivering some super-hit chartbusters.

Amit recalled 1981-82 as his best phase in the industry, as his songs from Kumar Gaurav’s – Love Story were all mega-hits, followed by his successful album in film Teri Kasam. He added that after his father’s (Kishore Kumar) death till the year 1991 the latter continued to sing some popular tracks flawlessly with the support of music composers, Laxmikant & Punchm Da; but post 1992 the phase for the singer was a bit mild, which he describes as a routine act in the industry as up’s & down’s are a part of life & career. The singer also mentioned about regaining massive momentum by recording some tremendous numbers for – Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with composer Viju Shah.

While opening up about the megastar musician Kishore Kumar, Amit Dada expressed that whatever he has achieved today is due to his father Kishore Da who has inspired numerous artists with his great singing style and journey. He called himself the proudest son, who was advised by his dad to make his unique identity in the industry as he (Amit Kumar) was capable of the same.

During the conversation, Amit Kumar disclosed how music & songs have changed over the years and highlighted the era of 1970’s as the Golden Era Of Music. The guy with a generous & jolly persona also revealed his interest for performing in live shows as it gave an opportunity to directly connect with the fans & audience.
